- Τιμώντας τον μεγάλο πνευματικό άνθρωπο Ηρώδη Αττικό, προς τιμήν της θυγατέρας του οποίου Μαρκίας Αθηναϊδος σώζεται εν Αθήναις η επιγραφή που έδωσε το όλο έναυσμα, το Ύπατο Συμβούλιο των Ελλήνων Εθνικών ανέθεσε στο Εργαστήριο Υπολογιστικών Μαθηματικών, Μαθηματικού Λογισμικού και Ψηφιακής Τυπογραφίας, του Τμήματος Μαθηματικών του Πανεπιστημίου Αιγαίου την δημιουργία (ψηφιοποίηση) μιας ιδιαίτερα όμορφης και σπάνιας αρχαιοελληνικής γραφής, την οποία, υπό το όνομα "Αθηναϊς", διανέμει δωρεάν επ' αγαθώ του πολιτισμού σε πάντα ενδιαφερόμενο.
- In commemoration of Herodes Atticus, a distinguished man of letters whose daughter Marcia Athenais is honoured in an inscription which survives in Athens (said inscription having provided the motivation for the whole initiative), the Supreme Council of Ethnikoi Hellenes has commissioned the Laboratory of Computational Mathematics, Mathematical Software and Digital Typography of the Department of Mathematics of the University of the Aegean to produce a character font for a particularly beautiful type of ancient Greek lettering. YSEE distributes this font free of charge under the name "Athenais", for the benefit of all admirers of Greek civilization.
